The USO strengthens America's military service members by keeping them connected to family, home and country, throughout their service to the nation.
Congressionally chartered, the USO has been fulfilling this mission since 1941 at USO Centers, and through significant, positive and lasting programs and services. For 80 years, the USO has worked side by side with the U.S. military and we are intricately woven into the fabric of the daily lives of our troops and their families. Today, the USO the operates at more than 200 locations worldwide. Unlike any other organization, our ability to work side by side with the military enables us to understand and ease the hardships of service members and their families and fill gaps remaining after military and government support.
For almost 80 years, the USO has been the nation's leading organization to serve the men and women in the U.S. military, and their families, throughout their time in uniform. From the moment they join, through their assignments and deployments, and as they transition back to their communities, the USO is always by their side.
Today's USO continuously adapts to the needs of our men and women in uniform and their families, so they can focus on their very important mission. We operate USO centers at or near military installations across the United States and throughout the world, including in combat zones, and even un-staffed USO service sites in places too dangerous for anyone but combat troops to occupy. In Colorado, the USO serves 35,862 active duty service members and their families, in addition to the 13,841 national guardsmen/reservists, and their families.
Our current goals are to provide programs that have a large impact on the mental health and well being of service members and their families. Frequent moves and deployments can take military families away from close networks of family and friends, exacerbating their sense of isolation, stress levels, and depression. Our programming and centers build strength by providing a consistent and stable place to be welcomed into a community that cares for them. Specifically, family programming, transition services, workshops, entertainment, mobile outreach (providing support to service members separated from a traditional brick-and-mortar center), and events.
"We have had so many unique opportunities through the USO's programs that we would not normally have participated in! We were able to experience ice hockey with our children, a first for us all and it was incredible!! It would of been a big expense to pay for the family, so are so appreciative of the opportunity to be recipients of donated tickets." - Colorado Military Family
"It's nice to have events to connect with other military members; we don't know many in this area because we don't live near most, so USO events are a great way to get involved." - Colorado Military Member
"The USO has been a part of our family for 11 years between mine and my husbands military careers. The care the staff provide to all military and veterans is incredible. We appreciate the constant support and activities that help bond us even more." - Colorado Military Spouse
"It's such a strange time right now and we still choose to stay home. We would love to see our friends and shop at the bookstore but we don't feel safe doing so with our toddler. The virtual events the USO has offered have been so helpful in feeling connected to others and bringing our family together. We tend to fall into a rut with the teenagers playing video games all day and it's nice to all come together for trivia night and laugh and about and have fun, in the safety of our home." - Colorado Military Family
About a virtual event, "Just being able to spend the day together! With both parents working full time/opposite shifts, we don't get a lot of family time. Being able to dedicate an entire day to just spending time as an entire family, and having fun, was amazing." - Colorado Military Spouse
"USO Events are important to our family because it makes us slow down and spend time together. We weren't worried about school, housework, or what needed to be done tomorrow. We were truly just focused on the present day and our activities." - Colorado Military Family
"Every USO I have visited has always made me feel welcome but I was particularly impressed with the Denver airport location. Their staff was exceptionally polite and helpful. The faculty was well stocked, clean, and had plenty of amenities. Make sure you stop by if you have time during your travels." - Traveling Military Service Member
"It was so nice to have a place to relax during our layover. The volunteers were wonderful and so helpful. My husband really needed the nice recliner after spraining his ankle taking a big suitcase out to the car that morning." - Traveling Military Spouse
"I've been to a lot of USO's during my time in the service. This one is great. They really go out of their way to make sure that you feel welcome and that you relax. The staff are awesome and Super helpful! I really wish I could give them more stars. Because they are 10 STARS ☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆, in a 5 star system!" - Traveling Military Service Member
