Mission Statement

The Force Behind the Forces: The USO strengthens America's military service members by keeping them connected to family, home and country, throughout their service to the nation. Congressionally chartered, the USO has been fulfilling this mission since 1941 at USO Centers, and through significant, positive and lasting programs and services. For 77 years, the USO has worked side by side with the U.S. military and we are intricately woven into the fabric of the daily lives of our troops and their families. Today, the USO the operates at more than 200 locations worldwide. Our ability to work side by side with the military enables us to understand and ease the hardships of service members and their families and fill gaps remaining after military and government support. No other organization can do that.

Organization History

USO supports five key groups: active duty troops; wounded, ill and injured troops, their families and caregivers; military families; troops in transition; and families of the fallen. Through USO Center operations, best-in-class programs and entertainment, the USO is able to create more than 30,000 moments each day for our troops and their families, letting them know that we remember and appreciate their service and sacrifice.

USO Denver provided a touch of home to over 132,000 troops and military families who visited our Center at Denver International Airport in 2018. Additionally, in July 2016, USO Denver opened a location at Denver's Military Entrance Processing Station (MEPS). At our MEPS Center in 2018, we welcomed over 24,000 of our nation's newest service members and their families to the USO family. USO Denver also offered morale-boosting and family-strengthening programs to over 36,000 service members and their families from all military branches based in the northern Colorado and southern Wyoming areas. We also serve those locally-based families who are geographically separated from loved ones who are deployed or stationed overseas. USO Denver is here for those who need us the most: our service members and military families; our wounded, ill and injured service members and their caregivers; our service members in transition; and our families of the fallen. Locally, we provide programming around four key pillars: family strengthening; health, wellness, and resiliency; community activities and entertainment; and education, employment, and reintegration. Over 200+ volunteers and an Advisory Council help 4 Denver-based staff members deliver goodness to our troops and their families year-round.

USO Colorado Springs provides a touch of home to over 112,000 troops and military families annually who pass through the USO Centers at Fort Carson, Colorado, as well as offers morale-boosting and family-strengthening programs. More than 115 volunteers and an Advisory Council help three full-time staff members deliver goodness to our troops and their families year-round. The USO Center at Fort Carson offers a relaxed, ski-lodge setting with laptop computers; an X-box game room with consoles, X-box games and controllers; a movie lounge with a wide assortment of DVD movies; WiFi; a pool table and foosball table; a children's playroom; hot lunches and dinners every day; a fireplace setting; and an outdoor patio with stage. Everything in the USO Colorado Springs is free for all active duty troop and their families. The USO and USO Colorado Springs focuses on offering programs to our troops and families that encourage and aid physical health & recreation, behavioral health and wellbeing, family strengthening, and education, employment and community integration.

"Thank you for everything the USO does for me and my family. I love everything we do for others. The USO keeps giving without ever asking for anything in return."
- Sgt Tony Lopes

"I wanted to let you know that I accepted an offer from Apogee Engineering, LLC and started as a Space Intel Analyst...Your help paid off for me. You put me in touch with key people - I kept following up on networking and putting myself out there at the various career fairs you sent me notice of. I had applied at Apogee five times and my interview was telephonic. I still prepared hard, put my notes out in front of me, studied my questions, the position description and my own resume' then put on lipstick, prayed and did my interview.
Keep up the good work for all of us!
Thank You,
- Becky A. Roberts"

A quote like that captures the tremendous power of the USO and reinforces the importance of supporting our troops whether home, deployed or transitioning out of the service. Our programs rely on your help and participation.
