I'm writing this on the deck of my new house in Lyons, about 30 minutes from Rocky Mountain National Park. It's another beautiful, sunny 60 degree day in the foothills of Colorado - in December. We're in the middle of a severe drought. No moisture in sight. Long's Peak, one of the highest mountains in the Rockies still has no snow on it. Our family cabin was evacuated in November - yes, November! - due to wildfire. It killed a fireman pilot. This summer most days the sky was full of ash and a danger to breathe, much less exercise, because of wildfires in the west. No doubt, you are also seeing weather extremes wherever you live.

350 Colorado is a priority for me because just about everything I value is at risk from the climate catastrophe.

Moreover, donating to 350 Colorado is a tremendous value for our donation dollars - and time. 350 Colorado leverages our staff time with thousands of hours of volunteer efforts, with impacts both broad and deep. Going against the most powerful forces in our society (right now, these include oil and gas, finance, insurance, government & electric utilities) takes an unsurprising amount of time, skill, energy and $$$.

The good news is that we currently have the technology to move forward with reducing our use of fossil fuels at record speed. And if the nation invests in research, the technology will develop faster than we, at full speed, can implement it.

350 Colorado remains hopeful. It focuses on that which is lacking - creating the collective and political will to force the change that is required. We have no option but to succeed. As long as we are pumping greenhouse gases into the air, the climate will continue to become more erratic, extreme and unable to support human life and our current ecosystems.

Thanks to your support in 2021:
•Colorado had the most productive legislative session on climate -- ever!
•The last train of coal was delivered to the Martin Drake Coal Plant in Colorado Springs
•Aspen divested $3.1M from Berkshire Hathaway
•We began hosting COVID safe in-person Non-Violent Direct Actions again.

Please schedule your donation for Colorado Gives Day right now. Doing this will qualify us for a portion of the $1.6 million incentive fund they have offered.

Please let us know if you're interested in further leveraging your donation by joining our matching fund donors. 84% of donors say they are more likely to donate if their donations are matched. Email me from this page.

Together, we can do this!
With gratitude,
Gina
