Pueblo Zoo staff and board have joined together to raise funds for one of their Pueblo favorites: Crowned Cranes. Your donation will fund their food, enrichment, and care all year. This has been a busy year for our cranes as they welcomed two new chicks to their flock this June! Mates Dwight and Esmeralda successfully hatched their first chick, but were met with a challenge when the second chick was hatched and showed signs of possible health concerns. After experiencing issues when interacting with its mother, our Animal Care and Vet Staff made the decision to remove the chick from Esmeralda, put the chick under the watchful care of our keeper team, and then placed the chick under the nurturing care of its father, Dwight.
We are excited to share that despite their challenging beginning, both chicks are doing well! The pair have been put back together and can be found taking turns with their parents with being on exhibit.
