Since opening Colorado’s first school-based health center (SBHC) in 1978, Kids First Health Care (Kids First) has been helping infants, children and teens get comprehensive primary care and other support they need to thrive.
Kids First is a mission-driven nonprofit in Adams County that runs clinics inside schools, community clinics that serve patients birth to 21, as well as the school nursing programs in Adams 14 and Westminster Public Schools.
The SBHC model provides accessible, affordable health care for a large number of previously underserved children and adolescents by delivering services in the school, where they spend the majority of their time. SBHCs ensure services are accessible to families who experience the greatest barriers to care, including unreliable transportation, unpaid time off from work and other inequities.
Kids First's community clinics serve as an important resource when schools are closed, and serve ages birth to 21 on a year-round basis.
Regardless of clinic location, no child is ever turned away.
