CFFR's 2021 fundraising goal for Colorado Gives and the Advanced Medical Fund is $20,000. CFFR's life saving goal is to be able to help 35-40 additional kittens and cats in the next year that have advanced medical needs that need to be resolved to make them adoptable, and give them a second chance at life.

CFFR takes in kittens and cats weekly from underserved communities in Colorado, Texas, and New Mexico where the homeless pet population is high and limited resources force euthanasia due to space. The question CFFR has to consider when requests to take in sick or injured kittens and cats is, "does CFFR have the financial resources to cover a spike in the medical costs that intake of these special cases will cause?"

The answer to that question is either a lifeline or a death sentence for those felines. In order for CFFR to be able to confidently say YES to saving the lives of these most vulnerable kittens and cats, they need a reserve of medical funds that they can utilize throughout the year.

Since CFFR launched in July 2020, CFFR has taken in over 1100 kittens and cats, and found permanent loving homes for over 1000 of them. The balance remain safe and warm in their foster homes. In spite of these accomplishments, the number of felines that have to be turned down because of limited resources is heartbreaking.

Medical expenses alone to support the intake of over 1100 kittens and cats and ready them for adoption is roughly $70 per cat. This includes spay/neuter, vaccines, deworming, and microchipping, When advanced medical conditions are present that need to be resolved, that average cost skyrockets to over $500 per cat. This includes diagnostic services such as x-rays, bloodwork, and cultures at a minimum, as well as medication and surgery at the high end.
