In 2024 I discovered Safe Shelter of St. Vrain Valley and was immediately struck by the power of its mission. For over 47 years, this organization has been a steadfast partner to survivors of domestic violence, elder abuse, human trafficking and teen dating violence—and has helped countless individuals and families rebuild lives of safety and dignity.

When I joined the Board in early 2025, it was because I believe we all have the capacity to be heroes in this fight. At its heart, this work is about more than providing emergency shelter—Safe Shelter offers 24/7 crisis support, counseling services, legal advocacy, housing and employment assistance, and community education so survivors can chart a new, independent course.

I was deeply inspired by the day-to-day dedication: the staff and volunteers working around the clock, the safe spaces created for survivors and their children (and even pets), and the tireless push to break the cycle of violence in our community. It moves me to take action—and to invite you to join us.

Because being a hero doesn’t always mean capes and flying—it means standing up, reaching out, donating your time or resources, speaking out, showing up. It means believing that everyone deserves to live free from fear and abuse, and then doing something to make that belief real.

When you stand with Safe Shelter, you become part of the solution. You help change lives. You help turn trauma into hope and resilience. You help a survivor say: I’m safe now. I’m free now. I can build a healthy life now.

Every day, someone in our community takes their first brave step toward safety — and Safe Shelter is there to catch them. But we can’t do it alone.

When you donate, you become a HERO — helping survivors of domestic violence find safety, healing, and hope. Your gift keeps the shelter doors open 24/7, funds counseling and legal support, and helps families rebuild their lives after trauma.

💜 Be a hero for someone who needs one today.Your contribution — no matter the size — has the power to change a life.
