Phoenix Initiative - Teen Program

A brief description, Phoenix Initiative is a program in Mesa County Colorado focused on the positive youth development, growth, and support for queer teens. Facilitated by peer support specialist Heat Hansen, and co-facilitated by fellow peer support specialist and founder of The Rainbow Closet Taylor Rubalcaba. This group offers pro-social activities, support in emotional wellness, discussions and practice of positive coping skills and hobbies, safe places and experiences surrounding gender identity and orientation and chaperoned field trips. Field trip examples of the 2025 year include various pride events, cultural expression events like the Caesar Chavez Festival, and nature appreciation trips including hikes, river trips, therapeutic trips to Harmony Acres Equestrian Center, and more. Donations to this cause go directly to arranging field trips, food and supply costs.
