Every time I summit a Colorado 14er (over 250 times now), I’m reminded how special—and fragile—the trails are. Summit views dazzle, but so do the deep ruts, braided social paths, and trampled alpine tundra underfoot. The Colorado Fourteeners Initiative (CFI), a nonprofit, builds sustainable routes, restores damage, and trains volunteers for long-term care.
CFI crews move refrigerator-size rocks (see my crew's photo above), build steps and drainage, and close rogue paths for plant recovery. Millions in trail work remains, and CFI leads it. As a frequent peak visitor and volunteer board director, I’ve seen well-built trails boost safety, protect environments, and elevate experiences. Join my $1,500 fundraiser via ColoradoGives.org to fund crews, projects, and monitoring.
Gifts now pack extra punch: New monthly donations during Colorado Gives get the first month matched (up to limits). Help today:
• One-time gift of any amount toward $1,500.
• Monthly ($10–$25) for steady support—first month matched!
Thank you for safeguarding 14er trails for safe, sustainable climbs ahead.
As an added bonus, if you donate 25.00 or more and specify it is my support page I will put your name in a drawing for a 100.00 REI gift card. The drawing will only take place if I reach 90 percent of my 1500.00 goal.
Update: I will be donating 500.00 to get us closer to the 90 percent eligible raffle threshold. And will also be raffling off a second prize - REI 50.00 gift certificate. So, spread the word and lets get this done by the 9th. Thank you all who have already contributed me and the mountains really appreciate it
