Fishing
A planned activity within CommuniKeys’ Outdoor Participation program
Help us develop supported fishing experiences for autistic adults and their caregivers in Northern Colorado.
CommuniKeys has worked with Colorado Youth Outdoors on archery. We hope to extend that outdoor learning relationship into fishing, with experienced instruction, suitable equipment, and a setting that supports safe, meaningful participation. Fishing sessions are in planning; dates and arrangements will depend on partner availability, funding, and participant needs.
What we are working toward
- Partner-led introductions to fishing equipment, techniques, and the waterside environment.
- Opportunities to practice, make choices, communicate observations, and spend time outdoors together.
- Appropriate equipment, staff preparation, communication access, sensory supports, and safety planning.
- Repeated experiences that allow adults and caregivers to become familiar with the activity.
Funding this activity
Our current annual planning range is approximately $10,000–$15,000 for this activity area, depending on equipment and instruction needs. This campaign’s $10,000 goal supports fishing as a developing component of Outdoor Participation within CommuniKeys’ $250,000 annual fundraising effort. Your gift helps fund instruction, equipment, staff time, preparation, and participation supports for this planned activity.
Your support can help turn this planned opportunity into a supported way for adults to explore a new interest and participate outdoors.
