We are pursuing an innovative approach to local journalism that seeks to transcend political polarization by presenting consequential issues through a thoughtful synthesis of entertainment, satire and rigorous factual reporting. Our approach is predicated on the premise that the more contentious an issue becomes, the greater the opportunity for incisive, relatable satire to foster engagement without compromising the integrity of the underlying facts or diminishing the substantive importance of the issue itself.
Contemporary news media have become increasingly susceptible to political appropriation, whereby even routine reporting can be weaponized as ideological ammunition. Research suggests that satire, when thoughtfully employed, can mitigate psychological defensiveness, reduce resistance to challenging perspectives and create opportunities for constructive dialogue. By beginning at the local level — specifically, Aspen and the greater Roaring Fork Valley — we can assess our impact within a defined community, refine our approach and work toward a broader objective: fostering meaningful civic engagement and bringing people together across ideological divides.
Our vision is a return to a time when public discourse was less consumed by social media, artificial intelligence and the relentless politicization of everyday life. We seek to cultivate a media environment in which difficult subjects can be examined without reflexively becoming cultural battlegrounds. We will pursue this vision not through propaganda or ideological persuasion, but through an engaging combination of humor, entertainment and substantive, fact-based investigative journalism.
All funds raised will be dedicated to advancing this mission, including the engagement of additional, established community writers whose voices and perspectives can enrich our coverage and extend our reach. Ultimately, we hope to demonstrate that when people step away from their screens, engage with their neighbors and examine the issues that shape their daily lives, they may discover that their shared interests and concerns substantially outweigh their differences. Through journalism that informs, entertains and invites reflection, we aim to strengthen the common ground upon which a more cohesive community can be built.
