The CACY Story
The Colorado Alliance for Caregiving Youth (CACY), a nonprofit established in 2023, was sparked by a powerful question from a young person who asked our founder, “What do you do for kids who are caregivers?” — revealing a gap no one was addressing. CACY’s mission is to empower caregiving youth and their families through heart-centered education, advocacy, support, and collaboration.
Every day across Colorado, young people quietly take on adult caregiving roles—helping parents, grandparents, or siblings with medical needs, disabilities, or daily responsibilities. They balance school, friends, and growing up while carrying adult-sized responsibilities. Many do this out of love—but too often, they do it unseen.
At CACY (Colorado Alliance for Caregiving Youth), we believe these young caregivers deserve recognition, understanding, and support. Our mission is simple yet powerful: to empower youth caregivers through education, advocacy, and collaboration for thriving futures.
Why This Matters
In Colorado, the 2023 Healthy Kids Survey reported that 20. Caregiving youth are everywhere—sitting in classrooms, walking to practice, or working after school—often without anyone realizing the challenges they face. Research shows caregiving can affect attendance, grades, emotional well-being, and even long-term opportunities.
Yet, when given the right support, these same young people show incredible resilience, empathy, and leadership. CACY is here to make sure they’re not alone.
