Healthcare for All!

La Clinica/The People's Clinic is the only clinic of it's kind between Parachute and Denver, servicing our uninsured, immigrant community. It is a promise that access to healthcare is equitable. La Clinica started over 9 years ago when Judith Alvarez, a doctor from Mexico, was working with local immigrant women and found out that they were not accessing healthcare. With the help of local health professionals who donated their time, she opened a once a month, free clinic in a small office at the Third Street Center in Carbondale. That clinic has now grown to 5 days a week and one Saturday a month, 2 exam rooms and a dedicated behavioral/mental health office that see over 1100 patient visits a year.  We excpect to see the need increase significantly in the coming year due to cuts in medicaid and fear. We provide a safe space. These folks are our workforce and our friends and neighbors. La Clinica's holistic approach includes primary care, womens reproductive health services, in house lab work and educational classes such as Healthy Cooking classes, Shop with a Doc, exercise classes and videos on Stress Management, colin cancer and more.
