Dotsero is an academy founded with the mission of breaking cycles of poverty by teaching English, enabling individuals to obtain bilingual employment. In Guatemala, someone who speaks English can earn up to twice as much or even find a job, which allows them to sustain themselves economically. A portion of our students receive full scholarships, as our goal is not only to provide monthly financial aid, but to equip them with lifelong tools that cannot be taken away—skills that lead to dignity, independence, and long-term opportunities.
Just last week, two of our students who began in March secured dignified employment. One of them faced opposition from his own family, who wanted him to continue working in fireworks rather than study. He chose instead to pursue his education, and today he is employed at a company rather than risking his life making fireworks for less than two dollars a day. He is the only one in his family who has studied, and with his new job, he now hopes to give his two younger sisters the opportunity to go to school as well.
This is what Dotsero represents: breaking cycles of poverty by opening doors to employment through the power of learning a second language.
