Help Us Complete a Safe Space: Support the Soft Interview Room for Children

In moments of crisis, victims deserve to feel safe, heard, and protected. That’s why we're working to create a Soft Interview Room—a specially designed space where victims can share their experiences in a calm, comfortable, and non-threatening environment. These interviews often occur during incredibly difficult and traumatic times, and a soft room helps reduce anxiety, fear, and the emotional burden placed on victims during questioning.

Zonta has already made great progress funding a soft room for adults. For human trafficking, domestic violence and sexual assault the highest % are women or teens. Now, with your support, we are working on a second room dedicated specifically to children. What makes this setup even more thoughtful is that the two rooms will be conjoined—allowing the child to know that their mom is “right over there,” providing emotional reassurance without disrupting the necessary privacy of the interview process.

Creating this space is about more than just furniture and walls. It’s about fostering trust, safety, and healing during one of the most vulnerable moments in a victim’s life. The child's design will include soothing colors, soft furnishings, child-friendly decor, and a layout that puts the needs and comfort of the child first. Having the child's needs be taken care of helps the professionals gather accurate, useful information in a trauma informed way from their adults. Survivor dignity, quality interviews, helping police advocates so difficult jobs - win/win.

The origin and now gold standard of soft interview rooms comes from Project Beloved. We are trying to take their lead and support local law enforcement to better our own community.

But we can't do this without you.

Your donation will directly support the creation of this child-focused space—helping us provide comfort, care, and security when it’s needed most.

💛 Donate now to help build hope, healing, and safety—one room at a time.
