Across Colorado, communities are losing faith in the news — and rightfully so.

Many news outlets have relied on traditional advertising for years, and as audiences move to new platforms like TikTok and Discord, newsroom budgets are shrinking while publishers place profit over purpose. But newsroom bias and preferential publication no longer meet the needs of the public.

People are craving trustworthy news that reflects their lived experiences, represents issues they care about and rebuilds a sense of community connection.

Empower Media Exchange is meeting that need through Front Range Focus, a community-fueled multimedia co-op that provides news content for Colorado's Front Range. By reimagining what local media can be – ethical, inclusive and powered by the people it serves – Front Range Focus is a new way to news. 

In addition to local and national entertainment, business, lifestyle, political, sports and technology content, Front Range Focus features a "Community Information Commons," a free, accessible platform for residents, journalists and nonprofits to share reliable community-driven information.

- Community-Fueled Journalism: Powered by local storytellers, students and residents — not corporate interests.

- Purpose Over Profit: Every story is created with integrity and intention, prioritizing truth, inclusion and impact instead of clicks or ad revenue.

- Cross-Platform Storytelling: Blending print, digital and audio formats that reach people where they are — making trusted local news accessible and engaging. 

- Intentionally Intergenerational: Bringing together youth, emerging storytellers and seasoned journalists to co-create media that bridges generations, preserves community wisdom and inspires future leaders.

How Your Gift Helps

• $25 supports the distribution of a local community story to thousands of readers.

• $50 provides one hour of mentoring for an emerging journalist or storyteller.

• $100 funds community “Office Hours” sessions where nonprofits receive direct communications support.

• $250 sponsors a youth or college contributor to publish their first story through Front Range Focus.

• $500+ helps expand the Community Information Commons, connecting more organizations and residents with reliable local information.
