Help keep our barn water tight! Behind the Little White Schoolhouse on Barkley Road is a little white barn where students and teachers used to "park" the mules and horses they rode to school. With its recent restoration it now houses an antique buggy and 1800s tools - providing a unique glimpse of our mountain community's past.
We need your help to pay for gutters to minimize the impact to the barn's foundation, new concrete entry pad, and erosion of the soil around the structure, as well as protecting the grading of the west side of the property. They will also protect from additional water runoff toward the asphalt driveway and the foundation of the school building.
Conifer Historical Society is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization funded entirely with donations so we appreciate your support!
The Conifer Historical Society & Museum (CHSM) shares the region’s legacy by collecting, preserving, and exhibiting historical and cultural materials.
CHSM's Little White Schoolhouse is a Nationally Registered Historic Place. The school was a community hub, hosting events in addition to hosting classes for the local students. Over the years, Little White was an overflow building and eventually was the preschool for West Jefferson Elementary, closing in 2013. It now serves as CHSM's museum and education venue.
