Hiking and Outdoor Learning
Part of CommuniKeys’ Outdoor Participation program

Help autistic adults explore local trails, notice the natural world, and share time outdoors with caregivers and peers.

CommuniKeys organizes supported hikes and walks in Northern Colorado. Routes and preparation take account of terrain, distance, sensory conditions, communication access, and the different ways adults participate. Outdoor learning can grow from the places we visit and the interests participants bring.

What your support makes possible

  • Staff time to select and review routes, prepare activities, and support the group.
  • Trail access fees where needed, outdoor supplies, and safety resources.
  • Accessible learning materials and opportunities to communicate observations and choices.
  • Repeated visits that build familiarity with local trails and community spaces.

Caregivers attend alongside the adults they support. Experiences include time to pause, communicate, and engage with the surroundings at a suitable pace.

Funding this activity

Our current annual planning range is approximately $10,000–$15,000 for this activity area, depending on equipment and instruction needs. This campaign’s $8,000 goal contributes toward that annual planning range. Hiking is one component of Outdoor Participation within CommuniKeys’ $250,000 annual fundraising effort. Your gift helps fund staff time, route preparation, supplies, and participation supports behind this activity.

Your gift helps sustain opportunities to explore, learn, and take part outdoors.
