Fuel the Flava: Free Hip-Hop for Northern Colorado

Why Foco Flava Exists

Foco Flava is a nonprofit hip-hop organization based in Fort Collins, rooted in the belief that hip-hop can change lives when it is taught with care, history, and community at the center. We create spaces where young people and families can move, express themselves, and feel a genuine sense of belonging – often for the very first time.

Since becoming a 501(c)(3) in 2022, we have grown from a single annual jam into a year-round ecosystem of programs: Camp Groove, Foco Flava Annual hip-Hop Jam (10th annual in 2026), school workshops and assemblies, Boys & Girls Club partnerships, free open trainings, and collaborations with community events like FoCOMX, Fort Collins Juneteenth, and Body/Speak at CSU.

In the last year alone, over 300 youth and adults have connected with Foco Flava artists across camps, battles, workshops, and performances, guided by more than 10 teaching and performing artists.

Who We Serve

Foco Flava is intentionally built for youth and community members who have the least access to traditional dance spaces:

• Young people of color and their families in Fort Collins, Larimer County, Weld County, and surrounding communities

• Youth and families navigating financial barriers, who often cannot afford studio tuition or competition fees

• Students who meet hip-hop for the first time in school assemblies, after-school programs, and Boys & Girls Clubs

• Community members who may not see themselves represented in formal arts spaces, but light up when they see hip-hop on stage or in the cypher

Our programs now reach youth in schools such as Harris and Mountain Sage, students and community at CSU through the Hip Hop Dance Club and CoDEO/Body/Speak, and young people from multiple districts who travel into Fort Collins for Camp Groove and Foco Flava events.

Our Values

Everything we do is grounded in five core values:

• Expression – Creating space for self-expression and self-actualization through dance, music, and storytelling.

• Community – Building a strong, intergenerational community of youth, families, artists, and educators who support one another.

• Culture – Honoring the roots of hip-hop while teaching its history, context, and global impact with respect.

• Energy – Bringing intentional, uplifting energy into every room – from school gyms and clubs to theaters and outdoor stages.

• Legacy – Protecting and advancing hip-hop culture so the next generation has access to spaces we did not.

Why We’re Raising $35,000

This campaign will fund Foco Flava’s 2025–2026 season so we can:

• Keep Camp Groove accessible – Cover instructor pay, scholarships, studio/venue costs, and supplies so families with limited income can still participate.

• Offer free and low-cost open trainings – Weekly community sessions where youth can train, practice, and find mentorship without needing to pay studio tuition.

• Expand school and community partnerships – Bring culturally-rooted hip-hop education to more schools, Boys & Girls Clubs, and community centers across Northern Colorado.

• Produce Foco Flava Vol. 10 and community events – Cover costs like venues, sound, DJs, judges, and artist stipends so youth see high-level hip-hop in their own community.

• Build sustainable infrastructure – Support essential costs like insurance, storage, admin time, and safe equipment so our artists can focus on teaching and mentoring.
