I am participating in the Move for PSC fundraiser, walking and playing with my dog, Wexie. As many of you know, in 2006, our son was diagnosed with primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC) which damages the bile ducts in the liver. PSC can cause liver failure and an increased risk of cancer. In addition, most people with PSC also have inflammatory bowel disease (ulcerative colitis or Crohn’s Disease).

Unfortunately, there are no treatments for PSC except for a liver transplant, and PSC can recur after a liver transplant. In addition, PSC carries a high symptom burden, including significant fatigue, serious itching far exceeding typical itching from bug bites, etc. Other burdensome symptoms are brain fog, liver pain, nausea and vomiting, difficulty sleeping (even when exhausted), depression, anxiety, and more.

We are grateful for the research that many PSC researchers are doing, but we need more research to find treatment(s) to slow PSC progression, and hopefully, find a cure! Please support Move for PSC where every donation goes directly to PSC research.

You may have heard me say that since I went to my first PSC Partners Annual Meeting in 2006, I have met my second family. Since then, I have met so many people living with PSC, as well as expert researchers who are interested in PSC. Unfortunately, during this time, I’ve had to grieve for too many people who have passed from PSC.

Please help support my PSC family through additional PSC research. My goal is to reach $3,500 before June 30th. Every donation, of whatever amount you can give, is greatly appreciated.

I can’t thank you enough, Joanne
