We’ve put down roots.

At the time of our merger, we didn’t realize just how deep the community’s love for Grand County’s land and water ran. We’re inspired again and again by the dedication and passion shown by Grand County’s people. It’s not surprising – the area has stunning scenic beauty, a rich history of farmers and ranchers as dedicated land stewards, and an abundance of recreational opportunities to enjoy this incredible area.

Now what we’ve nurtured together is bearing fruit.

Today, more than a year after our merger with Colorado Headwaters Land Trust, Colorado Open Lands has three full-time staff dedicated to Grand County, each working hand in hand with local partners and landowners.

Courtney Bennett serves as Senior Conservation Project Manager, working directly with landowners who are interested in protecting their land. Hannah Reid is our Land & Water Steward, meeting regularly with the landowners who care for the more than 10,000 acres already protected. Ryan Holt is our Restoration Landscape Coordinator and is actively leading river and landscape restoration projects across the region.

Together, alongside a dedicated local advisory group, we are combining more than 40 years of statewide experience with the insight and leadership of this community. A powerful partnership was formed, and it is already led to new conservation successes, active restoration project work, and meaningful landowner relationships.

You can be a part of sprouting additional growth.

This summer, we have set a goal to raise $30,000 to support conservation, stewardship, and restoration work right here in Grand County. Thanks to the generosity of two local families – one a longtime Colorado Headwaters Land Trust supporter and the other a conserved landowner – the first $15,000 raised will be matched dollar-for-dollar.

That means your gift can have twice the impact.

This work matters because Grand County matters. It matters to the families who rely on working farms and ranches to provide food and sustain livelihoods. It matters to those who cherish the scenic views and wildlife that define this landscape. And it matters to everyone who finds renewal, challenge, and joy on the trails, rivers, and open spaces that make this place feel like home.

Your support helps ensure these lands remain healthy, accessible, and protected for all who live, work, and play here, now and for generations to come.

I also hope you will join us in person on July 24 from 12:00 to 2:00 PM at the Grand Lake Yacht Club for a community picnic and open house. This gathering is a wonderful opportunity to meet our team, connect with others who care about this work, and learn more about what lies ahead. We would love to see you there.

Thank you for being part of this community and for believing in the importance of protecting Grand County’s land, water, and way of life. Your partnership means more than you know.

Let’s continue to grow together.

With gratitude,

Tony Caligiuri
