The humanities are not a luxury — they are a lifeline. I know this because some of my most powerful memories are rooted in the humanities. I remember reading with my mom as a child and feeling the joy of family connection through story. I remember being captivated by my great-grandmother’s tales about advocating for women's right to vote. And as a teacher, I saw firsthand how students in the humanities found their voices, broadened their worldviews, and drew strength from exploring the past and present through stories.
The humanities are alive in every community through cultural traditions, histories, artistic expression, and storytelling. At Colorado Humanities, our role is to amplify those strengths and support the people and places that bring the humanities to life in the ways that matter most to them. We create spaces where communities can share, reflect, and imagine their future together.
With federal funding for humanities councils eliminated, this lifeline is at risk. That’s why I’ve joined the Community Connections Champions team to help raise $37,500 to keep programs alive that connect Coloradans across generations and cultures. My personal goal is $500.
If you’ve ever felt the power of a story that stayed with you, a conversation that opened your eyes, or a tradition that deepened your sense of belonging, then you’ve felt the humanities. It is through these shared experiences that we connect across differences, strengthen our sense of community, and imagine the future we want to create. Please join me in protecting this vital work!
