Give Today for Democracy's Tomorrow

I wish I were writing you in brighter times. It’s been a rough year for our democracy and, as a result, our communities. But I hold onto hope because of the work I get to do at the Civic Canopy. 

As my colleague, Bill, said recently:

Dialogue may seem fragile in the face of violence and autocracy, yet it is our strongest antidote. Community and communication share the same root: communis—to share, to make common. One cannot exist without the other. A community only grows stronger through its communication.

In the past year, I’ve seen some real bright spots for dialogue. We’re in a political climate that often lives on the margins, with candidates winning with just a few votes over the line. But I got a chance to bring a group to more than 90% agreement on a housing issue that had torn the community in half. You can see the group giving me their votes in the picture above. These are the types of numbers that feel unheard of, but are still totally possible. But they require the support of folks trained in collaboration who can help groups not only achieve these results, but train them to do it for themselves. 

This year, my personal goal is to reach $2000 with the support of people like you. Between now and December 9th, you can triple your donation simply by donating. The Colorado Gives Foundation will match donations up to $100 AND we have an anonymous donor who will match gifts up to $10,000 for new donors or donors who increase their gift.  I hope you’ll join others in ensuring our civic spaces are ones where all of us can decide our future together by donating to the Civic Canopy today!
