Supporting Savio supports kids like Jace.
Jace, thirteen, is an outgoing, active teen who spends his days playing soccer and
basketball, hanging out with friends, and exploring the mountains with his parents. On
the surface, Jace is your typical Colorado kid. But his childhood was marked by trauma
and neglect.
Not long ago, Jace was not the same bubbly kid laughing on the field. Jace had been
engulfed by the lingering scars of his childhood, overwhelmed by fear, of the dark, of
rejection, and of his safety. His sadness and anger often erupted into emotional
outbursts. He pushed his parents away and withdrew from the world around him.
Desperate to find help for their family, his parents turned to Savio. Jace began working
with his therapist to learn how to calm his body and make sense of what he’d been
through.
In the beginning, Jace was hesitant to open up. But everything shifted during an
exercise called a trauma narrative. Jace wrote about his experiences on glass plates
and read them aloud to his parents. Then, they all threw them down. As the glass
shattered, Jace took a deep breath and his parents leaned in, holding him tight. They
were ready to step into something new together.
Today, Jace fills his home with laughter and energy. He talks openly about his feelings.
And he now knows his parents are on his team. For the first time, Jace isn’t carrying his
burdens alone.
He is learning what it feels like to be a kid again.

care that help kids like Jace heal.
