Preserve History for Young Readers: Help Reprint Edgar’s Diary!

Step back in time with Edgar Avery, a young boy growing up in the early days of Fort Collins. His diary provides a rare and vivid window into life in our city more than a century ago, capturing everyday moments, childhood adventures, and the beginnings of the community we know today.

The original print of Edgar’s Diary was created with a clear purpose: to make sure that every child in Fort Collins could afford a copy, helping them connect with the city’s history in a meaningful and personal way. Today, Poudre Landmarks Foundation continues that mission by working with school groups, especially 2nd graders from across the city, to provide engaging tours of the 1879 Avery House. We are committed to accessibility, offering free admission for students on free and reduced lunch, so that no child misses the chance to experience the stories of our past.

By reprinting Edgar’s Diary, we ensure that future generations can continue to learn from Edgar’s words and see Fort Collins through the eyes of a young boy. This project will not only preserve a beloved historical resource but also enhance the educational programs at the Avery House, bringing history alive for children and families alike.

The current estimated cost for reprinting this treasured diary is between $5,000 and $7,500. Your support will help keep Edgar’s story accessible, inspiring curiosity, learning, and a love for history in young readers throughout Fort Collins. Every gift makes a lasting impact in preserving our community’s heritage.
