Homegrown Food For All

Last year I was looking for ways to expand my positive impact on the climate and specifically looking for ways that help foster deeper community connections. Joining the Board of Directors at Fresh Food Connect has met these goals and more in my local community and those across the country.

Home gardeners throw away over 11 billion pounds of food each year and about 40% of food overall is wasted each year.  This results in wasted money managing this waste, larger landfills, and millions of people left hungry.

Fresh Food Connect helps to address this by connecting home gardeners with local food relief organizations to get their excess produce into the hands of people in their communities that need it most. We have experienced explosive growth over the past few years and we're on track to have our biggest impact ever in 2025.

Fresh Food Connect Staff & Board MembersBecause of that, I am personally matching all donations to Fresh Food Connect from my network this holiday season (up to $2000). Join me in giving this holiday season in support of this wonderful organization and those most in need for fresh food.

The Need

Each year, roughly 1 in 8 people in Colorado experiences food insecurity, yet 40% of our food is wasted.

At the same time, 1 in 3 households grows food at home or in community gardens.

Our Solution

The Fresh Food Connect mobile app bridges this gap. We connect home and community gardeners with nearby hunger relief organizations, turning garden abundance into community nourishment.

a heart-shaped potatoOur Community Partners

“This summer, our food pantry received an incredible assortment of fresh produce. It was such a gift to see our community members light up when they saw items like zucchini, tomatoes, and herbs— things they rarely expect at a food pantry. One family told us it was the first time in months they’d been able to cook a fresh, healthy meal together.

"These donations don’t just provide nourishment— they bring dignity and joy to those we serve. Thank you for helping make this possible!”

- Kaizen Food Share, Denver, CO

  Our Gardeners

“I love knowing that the extra zucchini and tomatoes from my garden are helping families in my own community. Fresh Food Connect makes it so easy to give back — it’s something small that adds up to something big.”
- Megan, Denver Gardener

Our impact beyond the numbers:

  • Connection, resources and support for thousands of new and seasoned Colorado gardeners
  • Good food stays out of landfills, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and offsetting costs for families and individuals in need

  • A community-based food system, where neighbors support each other, and where food in local pantries and in free, community markets is nutritious, and culturally relevant

Together, we’re building a more connected, sustainable, and equitable food future — one garden at a time.
