Help Spencer And Others Like Him Soar

My son Spencer, was diagnosed at 18 months with severe autism. Since then, I've been searching for an extracurricular activity that only that he enjoyed, but felt accepted in as well. He loves dancing. He's non-verbal, but he expresses himself through dancing and he loves his music. It took years and years for me to find a studio.

Either they didn't accept children as autistic as he is, or they wanted to integrate him with other children, which would cause stares and whispers and would make him feel different and uncomfortable. Not to mention insanely expensive because of this condition.

When I found out about Autistic Wings Dance Studio, I reached out immediate, finally, a place where he can be himself and have fun and not worry about anyone else's opinions and stares. When he did. He loves it here. They've incorporated his dancing and ribbons and his favorite music into his routines, and he couldn't be happier. But I'm so grateful I found a place where he can have fun. Do what he does. And Spencer is never judge.

The only problem is that dancers like Spencer can only take one class per week. That is because Autistic Wings is renting studio space from another studio in town. It's a single studio space, with doors on both end of the studio space. Plus, lots of "fun" equipment the other studio uses that our dancers want to climb on and have fun with. We need to spread our wings to fly to a space where we can grow, set our own schedule, and dance without fears of a dancer eloping into a busy street.

That takes money. A lot of money. We have found a space that is just $5000 a month to rent. It sounds like a lot, but if 250 heroes pledge to give just $20 a month, we could cover the rent! And in the first month Autistic Wings could expand their class offerings by over 200%!
