What can our community achieve when we join together to support writing and the literary arts?

$2,000 goal

Help the Young Writers Program provide creative writing after-school enrichment for Title One schools across Denver! For every $2,000 we raise, we can provide enrichment for one school for an entire semester. These are schools where 71% of students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch and due to funding constraints, these schools are in need of free, high-quality enrichment programs for their students. This year, join Ashley and Genna as they raise funds to support these important programs at schools that need them most! However big or small your donation is, know that it will help us bring more programs like the one featured in the video to the brilliant kids of Denver.

More about the program:

The Lighthouse creative writing curriculum focuses on creating nurturing and engaging spaces for students to explore their creativity, find their voice, and share their stories. Our faculty are professional writers and teachers who develop lessons incorporating social-emotional learning, literacy, and writing support. By using a fun and joy-centered approach to writing, students create positive relationships with writing and creativity, which supports them in and out of school for years to come. Lighthouse instructors incorporate games and play in their lessons, so students have a chance for community-building and movement in these enrichment classes. Students also learn how to share their work and listen to others in a supportive and compassionate way, fostering a culture of empathy and a stronger sense of community.

In the schools we’ve worked with so far, even students who were resistant to writing ended up creating wonderful stories, artwork, poems, and comic strips, experiencing pride in their work and excitement towards future writing. One student shared, “Creative writing is my favorite class” after being with us for just a few weeks. Several fourth and fifth grade students submitted their work to writing contests because they were so proud of it.

About Lighthouse Writers Workshop: In 1997, two writers set out on a remarkable journey to build a lighthouse for others like them: people who were passionate about writing, yearning for a supportive community, and eager to connect with kindred spirits. This "lighthouse" symbolizes a safe harbor, a beacon of hope, and a place to call home. From the seed of that one word, "Lighthouse," we've grown into a thriving and inclusive community of thousands, transcending geographical boundaries to illuminate the world with the magic of storytelling. We've reached a point where we ask ourselves, "What more can our community achieve, if we take things one word at a time?"

Please consider making a donation to Lighthouse today. Just as our founders set out to build a lighthouse for writers, we need your help to keep our light shining brightly. Your generosity will enable us to continue creating, inspiring, providing, and writing—a mission that touches countless lives.
