Join me in supporting scholarships for Community College of Aurora students. Give the gift of education and career advancement this holiday season and help students improve their economic opportunities by earning a college credential.
I am a Board Member of the Community College of Aurora (CCA) Foundation. CCA is the most diverse college in the state of Colorado. The CCA Foundation supports CCA’s overall mission to make education possible for every student, we help fulfill this mission by providing scholarships to students.
This year for Colorado Gives Day, I want to share the story of a student named Adam. Adam is a student at the Community College of Aurora and is currently enrolled in our renowned Film School program. Before coming is CCA, Adam had been homeless for 7 years; “The transition from homelessness to full-time college student seemed impossible to say the least; however, this is the part of the story where we introduce our undeniably amazing heroes! The staff of the Student Advocacy Center and the program itself.” While working with our Student Advocacy Center, Adam was able to gain access to our Student Emergency Assistance funds. These funds are specifically set aside for students facing financial challenges outside of tuition. After facing many challenges that should have prevented Adam from continuing his education, he made the choice to continue to fight for his education – the Student Advocates did the same. As most of us know, financial aid can cover the cost of classes but our students face many more challenges than just paying for a class. Adam was able to receive $400 in student emergency funds that have helped him fight external issues that could prevent him from making it to class, most importantly Adam is no longer homeless. Adam ended his letter with this “Simply, at this point, I want to again acknowledge the Community College of Aurora but specifically the staff of the student advocacy center for the incredibly positive impact they have had on my life in such a short period of 8me! Thank you, thank you, thank you!! I believe that this program could be a fundamental part of changing the lives of many students in the future!”
For Colorado Gives Day, I hope you will join me in donating to the Community College of Aurora. All donations made will be eligible for matching funds from the Community First Foundation. Gifts can be made at coloradogives.org/CCAF-CO .
