Team History & Background

The Monument Warriors is a Special Olympics Colorado team founded in August 2021 to meet the demand for sporting opportunities for those living with disABILITIES living in the Tri-Lakes area. During this time, we have welcomed many new athletes, growing our team from a roster of 40 to now over 100 team members and 15 volunteer coaches!

The Warriors represent the Tri-Lakes area in Special Olympics in a variety of sports regionally and on the state level throughout the year. Our team members participate in the following sports year-round:

Spring Sports: Track and Field, Swimming, Top Golf, & Powerlifting

Summer Sports: Cycling, Bocce, & Tennis

Fall Sports: Bowling & Volleyball

Winter Sports: Snowshoe, Basketball, & Powerlifting

THANK YOU for making a gift to keep our team strong this year!!

We are super proud of all the ribbons and awards our athletes have won at regional and state competitions in these sports. Additionally, we are pleased to see the progression of their skill-building and increased physical fitness. With the support of the community, our volunteers, donors, and our partners like the Tri Lakes Women’s Club and the Monument Hill Kiwanis Club, we know that our success will only multiply.

Warriors coaches volunteer our time and money to optimize our athletes’ experience by offering sports throughout the year. Our expenses, supporting over 100 athletes, are covered by private fundraising and families paying what they can. As we are serving individuals with disABILITIES, participation in athletics can be a financial burden for their families who have extraordinary medical and living expenses to accommodate their children’s special needs. Support from our community is essential and deeply appreciated.

Our team is growing and will continue to be strong when as we optimize the following goals:

  1. creating appropriate adaptive athletic and fitness programming and coaching,
  2. recruiting coaches who donate their time,
  3. securing financial support from community organizations and individuals,
  4. purchasing and maintaining functional and safe equipment,
  5. providing appropriate attire (practice jerseys, uniforms, socks, pants, etc),
  6. securing proper athletic facilities (bowling lanes, tracks, indoor courts, etc),
  7. providing occasional team travel that may include accessible vehicles, and
  8. creating community with fun celebrations of our athletes’ accomplishments!
