Enabling women to become self-sufficient and independent and make them feel welcomed in Colorado!

Every day, refugee and immigrant women in Colorado face challenges that go far beyond adapting to a new culture; they are rebuilding their lives from scratch and from the ground up. Many arrive after escaping war, persecution, systemic marginalization and hardship; carrying the hope of a safe future for themselves and their families. But safety alone is not enough. They need the tools, skills, confidence and opportunities to truly thrive.

At the African Community Center of Denver (ACC-Denver), we believe that every woman deserves the chance to be independent, confident, self-sufficient and empowered. Through two life-changing programs i.e. We Made This-WMT and Driving Opportunity-DO, we are making that vision a reality.

  • The We Made This-WMT program is more than a sewing training program. It is a safe, supportive space where refugee and immigrant women gain marketable sewing and production skills, often taught in their own languages to ensure no one is left behind. Participants learn professional sewing techniques, textile arts and product finishing, while also developing workplace and life skills like using digital tools, language proficiency, time management, Meaning stress through our therapeutic art session, exploring their new community during field trips,  and teamwork. The program doesn’t just stop at training; women create beautiful, handmade products that are sold locally, giving them real income and a sense of accomplishment. Along the way, they find community, build confidence and take their first steps toward self-counting and economic independence.
  • The Driving Opportunity-DO program removes one of the biggest barriers to independence i.e. transportation. In Colorado, not having a driver’s license can mean being unable to get a job, attend school or access preliminary and vital services. For many refugee and immigrant women, driving is also a pathway to safety and self-reliance. This program offers culturally sensitive driver education, often in participants’ native languages and pairs classroom. We guide women through every step including in classroom presentation about traffic rule and regulation,  practice sessions with simulator and behind the wheel with a specific car designed for students and the licensing process. What is the result? Women gain the freedom to work, study, care for their families particularly their children and participate fully in their communities.

Your donation today will directly support these women. They might cover materials for sewing, transportation assistance, driver’s training, interpretation services and the personal guidance they need to succeed. Even a small gift can help a mother drive her child to school, help a survivor start her first job in the United States or help a newly arrived woman feel a sense of belonging in a new community.

Together

We can turn resilience into opportunity and dreams into reality.

Support refugee and immigrant women today, when we empower women, we strengthen entire communities.
