In mid-2017 a group of Colorado engineers and educators decided to re-start the regional Future City competition in Colorado. The first regional competition was held in January 2018, at which 5 teams competed. In 2024 28 teams from 16 organizations fully participated in the program in Colorado. The 2024-2025 Future City Competition Theme is Above the Current and will ask students to design a floating city set 100 years in the future and provide two innovative examples of how their floating city works and keeps its citizens healthy and safe. Each team must complete 4 project components for the Future City competition, which are scored by a group of judges selected for their expertise in the field.
* Essay (due mid-December)
* Project Plan (due before the regional competition)
* Model and Presentation (due at the regional competition)
Teams that sign up for the competition are permitted to spend up to $100 on their tabletop models, which must be built from recycled materials. Future City Colorado is free to any organization - home school, public and/or private school, after school program, boys&girls clubs etc.
Teams taking part in the statewide regional competition are eligible for special awards (donated by various supporting organizations) and regional awards (supported from regional fundraising). The team that takes the top award at the Colorado competition wins a trip to the national finals, held in Washington, DC. The award includes the team's airfare, hotel rooms, and most meals, which are covered by the national organization.
Help us send our team to nationals by supporting our regional program in Colorado.
