Greetings friends! While so much is looking bleak in our world, I have been seeking ways to feel hope and resilience. I'm fortunate to be able to find some of that in my work at Chinook Fund.
We support community organizations led by (extra)ordinary people who do not accept injustice, who do not stop when things get tough(er). Instead, they take action with their community members to create real, systemic change. Community organizing is where real power lives and real change happens.
One example is Shut Down GEO Aurora, one of our most recent grantees. The image above illustrates what they imagine for the detention center in Aurora that currently holds our immigrant neighbors who have been torn from their families & imprisoned in inhumane conditions. Their mission may seem like a steep climb at this moment in time, but they will not let that stop their determination to tear down this unjust system.
I invite you to join me in supporting groups like this that are fighting for justice and for liberation. Let's not forget that in this world where many are trying to divide us, our liberation is bound together.
I've set an ambitious goal of $2,000 this year because the need has never been greater and the stakes have never been higher. Thank you in advance for believing in the power of community and the power of the people!
