Read more about The New Local Nonprofit:
The New Local Nonprofit (TNL) champions local, female-identifying and nonbinary artists, while building bridges between these creators and the broader community. We focus our outreach towards the most vulnerable populations within Boulder County, fostering accessible, innovative art education for everyone. Historically, culturally and economically, women and non-binary creators have been underpaid and underrepresented in galleries, museums and senior positions within the creative industries. The New Local seeks to redress this by fostering a level playing field for women working within the creative industries locally, while modeling an equitable organization.
Historically marginalized community members and individuals with lived experiences are not just beneficiaries of our programs, they are the architects of change. We engage these individuals as key members of our community, inviting them to participate in decision-making processes, program ideation, and implementation. By doing so, we honor their expertise, perspectives, and aspirations, fostering a sense of ownership and pride in the outcomes.
Since the opening of our brick and mortar location on November 15, 2022, we have championed the creative work of 210 local, women and non-binary artists, while providing opportunities for these women to connect with the broader community in meaningful ways. This includes: 27 free public art events, 19 local field trips and over 350 visual arts/writing classes, many on a sliding scale or by donation. To help reach underserved populations in our Boulder community we partner with El Centro Amistad, New Horizons Cooperative Preschool, Rocky Mountain Equality, Community Roots Midwife Collective, and Chautauqua.
TNL Testimonial
"TNL’s mission is focused on creating a more just, equitable, and sustainable world through the arts while simultaneously fostering a support network for women and nonbinary creators. For our youth of color, art spaces, such as a consistent weekly class, offer possibilities to engage in health activities, actively protecting them from risky behaviors and maladaptive habits by providing a safe space to enjoy themselves, foster social experiences and meaningful connections, affirm their experiences, therapeutically encourage mental health and emotional wellness, and promote authentic personal and cultural identity development.”
