Here at The Gabriel Foundation, enrichment is a top priority in keeping our birds' minds and beaks healthy. Wood is a major component in toy making, as we try to make every large bird toy with about 50% pine wood and 50% fun, shred-able materials. Some species prefer balsa wood, which is a pricier variety but is softer than pine for smaller beaks. Toys are made either by staff members or by volunteers, and we hold regular toy making workshops (like the group pictured above from CSU with the monstrous pile of toys they made)! Providing pine in enrichment allows the birds to naturally maintain a healthy beak shape, all while keeping their minds engaged! Due to supply chain difficulties, many lumber suppliers and home improvement stores are no longer able to donate wood to the foundation, so we need your help raising funds to buy our toy making materials!
