Centennial State Ballet's first Sugar Plum Tea Party in 2012 was an inherited event. Founder Kristin Kingsley had been hosting a tea party for many years prior to the formation of the non-profit, pre-professional ballet company. This event is a much loved narrated performance of scenes from The Nutcracker.  A selection of teas, scones, finger sandwiches, and desserts are served to patrons. Live harp music is performed during the tea. Young children are then invited to sit closer to the stage so that they don't miss any of the performance.

Scenes performed can vary year to year, but typically include scenes from the party including dolls and breaking of the nutcracker as well as selected Act II divertissements.
