In 1975, a handful of neighbors in the foothills of Larimer County, Colorado recognized a need and came together to establish a volunteer fire department. 50 years later, the Rist Canyon Volunteer Fire Department is stronger than ever!
Over the last 50 years, we have grown into a modern fire department with 40-plus trained responders--firefighters, EMTs, and EMRs--as well as 3 fire stations and 13 vehicles. Today, we serve a mountain region of 110 square miles and a population of around 1,400. RCVFD has fought fires from lightning-struck trees to two of the six largest wildfires ever to burn in Colorado. We also respond to medical emergencies, and we are first on scene for accidents, whether it's car, motorcycle, bicycle, or ATV. With our sprawling service area ranging from 20 to 90 minutes from the nearest hospital, having local first responders is key to getting help quickly.
The RCVFD continues to invest in equipment and technology to take us into our next 50 years. Despite our growth over the decades, the RCVFD is still run entirely by volunteers and receives no tax dollars. We hope you will support us!
