I'm raising money for the Denver Rock Orchestra, who I've played with for 3 years almost!

I started playing with the Denver Rock Orchestra about 3 years ago. I had played with other community bands and orchestras and needed something different. I wasn't looking to recapture my glory days of high school and college band. I will not miss playing Sousa on the 4th of July. I swear to Dolly Parton if I have to play an arrangement of Appalachian Spring ONE MORE TIME, I am going to set my bass clarinet on fire. I've played Imperial March enough times to tell you I play the note "C" 147 times in the first 2 and a half minutes.

With DRO I've found a place where I belong as a musician. I play an instrument that isn't typically called for in a traditional symphonic setting, they usually bring bass clarinet out for Sugar Plum Fairy around Christmas and once every 5 years when Rite of Spring is on the program. I play every song of every concert with DRO, and it's awesome. I'm not trapped in a green room waiting for the one song I play in the second half, I'm not doom scrolling at rehearsal while the orchestra hacks through Mozart's 11,000th symphony; I'm actively making music.

I would greatly appreciate you donating to this organization, it's made me believe in myself as an artist again. The group also strives to make orchestral music accessible to audiences, and leaving the elitism of "Classical" music behind was something I never knew I needed. After years of believing I could only play one style of music, teenaged me is super proud of us. I've played Led Zepplin, Spice Girls, Amy Winehouse, B-52's and not a single military march or John William's arrangement in sight. Denver Rock Orchestra is refreshing, fun and exactly what live music needs.
