To honor and celebrate the legacy of Dr. Linda Lujan, the Lamar Community College (LCC) Foundation has created the President Lujan Student Housing Fund to highlight the significant and ongoing need for student housing.  Consider giving to honor her contributions to higher education.

Lujan will have served more than 13 years as a college president when she finishes her 40-year community college career, and she will proudly tell you she saved the best for last when she came to LCC. She is also excited to know LCC is positioned well as a result of her 6 ½ years at the college. As she notes, “LCC is poised for growth. With new, and newly renovated spaces; great new employees; the addition of men’s and women’s soccer; lots of new technology; CCCS projects like Colorado Online and the Rural College Consortium; and incredible community support the college has some wonderful opportunities to grow and thrive.”

As president of LCC, she has had the privilege of guiding the college as it serves Baca, Prowers, Kiowa, and Cheyenne Counties in rural Southeast Colorado. Lamar is the smallest of the thirteen colleges in Colorado Community College System (CCCS), the state’s largest system of higher education, serving approximately 144,000 students across Colorado. She began this role in August 2016.

Lujan is a first-generation adult re-entry student whose academic career began at Arapahoe Community College. After she started a career in IT, ACC invited her to teach a COBOL programming class as an adjunct faculty member. From the moment she taught her first class, she knew she wanted to work in community colleges.

Prior to joining LCC, Lujan spent eleven years in administrative roles in the Maricopa Community College District in Arizona, where she served as the district’s chief new ventures officer, president and CEO of Chandler-Gilbert Community College, and academic vice president of South Mountain Community College. Before that, Lujan served eight years in administrative roles in CCCS, including academic dean at the Community College of Denver and director of educational technology at Arapahoe Community College. She also served as a full-time faculty member in Computer Information Systems at Arapahoe Community College.

Lujan earned a Ph.D. in Community College Leadership from Colorado State University, an M.A. in Educational Technology Leadership from The George Washington University, a B.A. in Human Resource Management from Colorado Christian University, and an A.A.S. in Management Information Systems from Arapahoe Community College. She also completed a certificate in Executive Education for Sustainability Leadership from Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. Lujan has published and presented nationally, serves on many local and national boards and committees, and has received numerous awards and accolades for her work.

She is a leader who believes we can all make a difference on this planet.

President Lujan retires from LCC in February 2023.
