Once upon a time...
There was a 13-year-old client who struggled with severe depression and anxiety. They faced relentless bullying at school, and their parents were going through a messy divorce, leaving them feeling unsafe and out of control.
They began to act out in an attempt to cope with their pain, which unfortunately led to even more troubles. Their life seemed devoid of happiness and peace.
One day, their mom heard about a place called Animal Assisted Therapy Programs of Colorado. They offered hope, and the client agreed to start therapy, not because they wanted help, but because they loved animals.
Over the next several months, a transformation occurred. The client built a strong bond with their therapist and with Hawkeye (Hawk), a horse at AATPC. Hawk, like the client, had a past filled with challenges and misunderstandings.
With the guidance of their therapist and the healing presence of Hawk, the client began to learn new ways to process their emotions. They discovered inner peace and happiness in the world around them.
It may sound like a fairytale, but it isn't. This is a real story of resilience and healing that unfolded at Animal Assisted Therapy Programs of Colorado.

Rosie, our fearless and unforgettable one-eyed albino "skinny pig," was the embodiment of Animal Assisted Therapy's profound impact. She radiated outgoing sweetness, showcasing how inner beauty and personality transcend physical differences. Recently, at the age of 6, she peacefully passed away, having touched countless human lives throughout her remarkable journey. The indescribable influence of this tiny creature is deeply cherished and sorely missed.

In Rosie's memory, we've established Rosie's Fund, dedicated to supporting current clients who've recently lost Medicaid and urgently need assistance to continue their services at AATPC. One such case is a 9-year old high-needs client who has been with us since 2020. With the end of pandemic funding, they've lost their Medicaid and face difficulties affording their vital services, risking the progress they've made. Rosie's Fund ensures that this client, along with others, can continue receiving the help they rely on.
For added perspective, on November 1st this year, 12 AAPTC clients lost their Medicaid coverage. The significance of this fund aligns perfectly with its namesake, a tiny yet impactful critter who touched countless lives. Rosie's legacy lives on through the continued healing and support it provides.
