Tania Landauer (October 31, 1958 – September 24, 2023)

We've created this page to honor Tania Landauer's legacy of commitment to local rivers. Tania was a beloved board member, a committed volunteer and cleanup team leader, a warrior in the world of conservation, and an inspiring woman who led with quiet, thoughtful attention to the natural world and those around her.

In October of 2020, one of our newsletters featured a spotlight on Tania - it captures her passion and we want to share it again.

Meet the Board: Tania Landauer

How did you first get involved with ERWC?

As a donor, I received a nice phone call from a board member thanking me. During our conversation, I explained how important the environment, and especially water-related issues, are to me and expressed an interest in joining the board. When offered a position, I jumped at the opportunity.

Why did you join the board?

Our environment, globally, nationally, and locally is at a critical tipping point. ERWC’s work on local water issues transcends our county and impacts far-reaching areas. As an environmentalist, it was time for me to put my words into action and help where I could. I felt strongly that this was a chance to help our watershed and our community.

What has been your proudest moment as an ERWC board member?

There really is no one moment – there are several, and they all spring from watching the residents and sometimes the visitors to our valley throw in and help with our critical community efforts to help our watershed.

What is something you are comfortable sharing?

By nature, I am a quiet person who speaks loudest through action rather than words. I am proud to be an environmentalist and proud to be a part of ERWC.

The Watershed Council community believes that in order to protect the resources and landscapes around us, we need to experience them. As both an organization and as individuals, we are fortunate to have crossed paths with people, both in this community and beyond it, who have encouraged us to experience the outdoors

Like the natural processes and ecosystems around us, we are connected to and impacted by those around us, and the people who inspire us change the very fabric of our lives.

Whether it is by inspiring curiosity about our landscapes, experiencing the rush of adrenaline when pursuing a passion for outdoor recreation together, or leading by example when faced with a contentious decision regarding conservation, we are inspired by the work of those who may no longer be with us.

This space has arisen to serve as a memorial for those people, that the ripples of their passion for the outdoors can continue to make a difference. It is a place where we can record the memories and share their impact on our lives and landscapes.

If you so desire, a tribute donation offers you a way to honor a special person or occasion while contributing to our mission of protecting rivers and streams to safeguard a vibrant future.
