In 2016, the McAllister House Museum went through a Strategic Planning exercise with the assistance of El Pomar Foundation. The result was the recommendation that the Museum hire a permanent Executive Director and increase the asset value of the Foundation from approximately $600,000 to $1.4 million in support of an Executive Director’s salary.

In 2018, the Museum hired Executive Director Eric Metzger and as a result, we have seen a dramatic shift in the way in which the Museum is perceived in the community and the educational value that it provides to the public. Since then, Mr. Metzger and museum staff have been busy with research, interpretation, education, and outreach projects that have been met with success and great interest from our constituencies. The most exciting of these projects has resulted in the understanding that the McAllister House is an Andrew Jackson Downing design found in his 1850 publication.

Andrew Jackson Downing's publication "The Architecture of Country Homes" revealed that the McAllisters built his design #17, "Farmhouse in the Rural English Style". Other sources tell us that they began an experimental garden on the grounds as early as 1873, informing citizens in the Pikes Peak region about our local environment. Since 2018, Mr. Metzger has been lecturing regularly to get the word out about these significant findings and others.

It is clear that the Museum is moving in the right direction and we appreciate the support of our Colorado constituencies. Please consider giving to the McAllister Foundation so that we can continue to offer visitors a high-level experience.
