Jane's Place is a legacy project honoring the vision of the late Jane Whitmer. On behalf of the Chaffee County Housing Authority (CHA), we would like to sincerely thank you, the local community for the support you have offered the Jane’s Place. This future development would not be possible without our partners and the generosity of our local community.
Jane’s Place is moving forward to be n innovative adaptive housing project near the heart of downtown Salida on the corner of 3 rd Street and Highway 291. Jane’s Place will provide 17 rental housing units, a nonprofit incubator meeting space, and a social enterprise coffee shop. Housing units will serve the needs of our diverse and growing seasonal workforce, households in transition or in emergency need, AmeriCorps volunteers, new recruits to our workforce, and families who are striving to exit homelessness.
Funding & Cost Estimates
The Jane's Place Project total cost is $6.4 million. Due to the generosity of the local community which provided the funding to achieve phase 1 of construction - preparing the site and installing infrastructure, Chaffee Housing Authority was able to secure significant grant funding for the next and final phase.

Timeline
Phase 1: Complete: Site prep and bringing infrastructure to the site
Phase 2: Once contracting is complete for the state grants, phase 2 will take approximately 10-12 months to complete. Estimated completion date is January 2025.
Donations:
Chaffee County Community Foundation hosts a Jane's Place Fund that offers donors the ability to make tax deductible gifts via personal donations, qualified charitable distributions, family foundations, stock gifts, or other donations requiring a 501c3. The funds are transferred to the Chaffee Housing Authority via a restricted grant for the Jane's Place Project.
Chaffee County Community Foundation hosts a number of area of interest funds to catalyze local solutions and inspire local philanthropy.
