Letter From Our Director:
Photo from 2026 Mural Unveiling
When an eighth grader from Honduras proudly shared her country of origin and pointed to her contribution to the mural unveiling at Carbondale Middle School, I knew we were doing something simple but extraordinary: creating a space where everyone belongs through storytelling.
I remembered being 14, arriving in the United States to study music and longing to be seen, heard, and able to say, “I’m from Taiwan.” Tears came to my eyes as I watched ten students from five Central and South American countries begin to see themselves as artists, as heroes of their own stories, and as integral members of our community.
Through Hero’s Journaling Project, we create space for young people to explore their experiences, take pride in who they are, and discover the power of their voices.
Please join us in making these experiences possible. Your gift sustains Hero’s Journaling Project, providing young people with opportunities to express themselves and connect with one another. Every young person deserves to know that their story matters and that they belong in our community.
Every youth deserves to be seen, heard, and reminded that their story matters.
With gratitude,
MinTze Wu,
Executive & Artistic Director, VOICES
A middle school student shares the story of his journey to the United States. He remembers saying goodbye to his mother, his brother, even his dog.
Then, from across the classroom, another student speaks up. “That happened to me, too.”
In that moment, one student's story becomes a point of connection. Two young people recognize a shared experience, and a classroom becomes a place of understanding.
When we share our stories and truly listen to one another, we create a stronger sense of belonging for ourselves and our community.
Please help us raise $10,000 this season so we can make 4 Hero's Journaling Project residencies happen in 2027.
