Sky High Hope Camp, a summer camp for children with cancer and their siblings, was one of Dan's favorite places. Dan's brother, David, first attended Sky High Hope Camp as one of the original campers more than 40 years ago. Dan joined as soon as he was old enough. As campers and then as counselors, the Hazlett brothers returned year after year to help other kids facing pediatric cancer find understanding, joy, peace, and song in the Colorado mountains.

Dan was a force at camp. His hearty laugh and soothing saxophone have become as much a part of Sky High Hope Camp experience as the aspens and the campfires. At the dance, he would jump in with the band and rock out to oldies with incredible energy that had everyone on the dance floor. He was there for a quiet conversation on the porch when someone needed an understanding ear and always ready to lead campers and counselors in song. At the closing of camp each year, he would stand, sight unseen, in the distance and play Amazing Grace on his saxophone as a tribute to all who had passed. Daniel’s last visit to Sky High Hope Camp was just a few months ago. He visited camp for the day, this time as a cancer patient himself. He brought along his two sons, Jackson and Braden, who were enraptured with the same camp magic that their father both loved and brought to camp every year.

Dan’s memory will remain with us in the coming summers as we welcome new campers and listen for his music in the trees. Your gift will help continue the love and joy so necessary for those affected by pediatric cancer.
