Defending Democracy in Colorado

I have been a member of the Colorado Common Cause board since 2018, and the Board Chair since 2020. I could not be more proud of the work we have done to ensure free and fair elections in Colorado, increase voter participation and education, and provide more equitable access so that Coloradans who wish to exercise their right to vote are able to do it safely and confidently. 

Here are just few of the wins I'm proud of since joining this organization:

1. In 2018, we passed Amendments Y and Z, which established the Independent Redistricting Commission, which allows our congressional maps to be drawn by voters, not politicians. 
2. In 2020, we helped facilitate a more complete count in the 2020 Census, which yielded an additional congressional district at the federal level. 
3. We also helped to combat mis- and disinformation campaigns during the 2020 election, by monitoring social media as well as providing voter education so that voters could make informed decisions.
4. In 2022, we passed the Vote Without Fear Act, which prohibits firearms at polling places or near dropboxes. This allows all voters to feel safe when casting their votes. 
5. in 2024, we helped pass jail-based voting, which allowed all currently incarcerated eligible voters to cast a ballot in this year's election. 

With your continued support of our organization, we plan to pass a Colorado Voting Rights Act, which will extend voting protections to Colorado voters. 

This year, my "board mom", Judith Singleton, suddenly passed away. Judith was a long-time member of the Common Cause board and I am dedicating this year's fundraising efforts to her memory. She is sorely missed.
