Honoring Dolly Parton's Legacy

For 31 years, Dolly Parton put her belief in the power of books into action, changing the world, one child at a time, with a simple but powerful declaration: 'You can never get enough books in the hands of enough children.'  

What began as a local effort in Dolly's hometown has grown into an international movement. Today, over 3 million children are registered for Dolly Parton's Imagination Library across five countries, and more than 300 million books are mailed to children every month. 

Dolly's Legacy continues not only to bring joy to millions through her music and in the extraordinary role model she was, but also in the moments this program has gifted children across the world.  Each month, millions of children experience the joy of calling a new book their own. A package with their name comes straight to their door, bringing books into the home and building a love of stories for generations to come.

Honoring Dolly Through Action 

Dolly Parton was a figure of joy and taught the value of kindness and giving to so many.   She believed that every child deserves the opportunity to experience the joy found in a book. Dolly brought joy in so many ways, and Dolly Day Colorado aims to continue the work she started. Here are ways you can do what Dolly would do and make an impact: 

• Give the gift of books - Donate to the Imagination Library to share books with children
• Host a fundraising or enrollment event - Call attention to Dolly's cause
• Pay tribute online - Use social media to bring attention to Dolly's work in your own style
• Read together - Open an Imagination Library or personal book and read with a child
• Attend a Dolly Tribute Event - Support local events that keep Dolly's Dream alive
