Durango local Robert Winslow has chosen to mark his 80th birthday by giving back to the community he loves and has launched a fundraiser for two organizations close to his heart: the San Juan Mountains Association and the La Plata County Humane Society (follow this link to support them, too).

Robert's birthday challenge? Hiking Durango's Sky Steps (all 529 of them) on his birthday (Wednesday, May 14th) eight times—one round for each decade of his life!

He would love you to celebrate along with him by pledging funds based on his hike. You can contribute in one of several ways:

1) Per round: Pledge an amount (e.g. $1 per round = $8 total for all eight rounds)

2) Per step: Pledge an amount per step (e.g. $0.01 per step = $5.29 total for one climb).

3) Make a one-time payment in his honor.

MORE ABOUT ROBERT WINSLOW

For those who don’t know Robert: he has lived in La Plata County for 44 years and has had a lifelong passion for the outdoors—hiking, photography, birding, cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing. His journey has included:

*Becoming the 36th person to ever thru-hike the Appalachian Trail (1971).

*Teaching wilderness studies, outdoor education, and nature photography at Idaho State University.

*Leading photography tours to destinations like Africa, the Galápagos, Polar Bears, Yellowstone, and beyond.

*Section hiking the Colorado Trail at age 77 (2021-2022).

He'd love to have your support in this challenge!

All donations received by SJMA will support Robert's passion for educating the next generation of stewards and will help provide assistance for families who may need some financial help in sending their child to SJMA's nature camp this summer and for replacing some of our education materials.
