Dear friends,

I want to take a moment to share with you why the mission of the Rocky Mountain Welcome Center, which supports immigrants and refugees, is not just important to me as its founder but also as an immigrant myself. My story is a simple one—I came to the United States to pursue a master's degree and found love in the process. But within this simplicity lies the essence of what many newcomers experience—both the challenges and the opportunities.

My Immigration Journey:

I arrived in the United States with dreams in my heart and a suitcase filled with hope. I already knew English, but I quickly realized that language alone was not enough. There were systems and processes I had to learn—how to rent an apartment, how to open a bank account, and how to navigate the intricate pathways of daily life. I vividly remember the moment I realized that apartments here came unfurnished, and the following weeks sleeping in an inflatable matress that deflated every night. And then there was the revelation that even to get electricity in my apartment, I needed a social security number.  I was very grateful my roommate had one.

Cultural Shock and Mourning:

As I transitioned from student to a resident, I experienced the cultural shock curve, a wave of emotions that many immigrants are familiar with. Alongside the excitement of embracing a new culture, there was a profound sense of loss and nostalgia for my own. I missed the familiarity of home, the taste of the food I grew up with, and the comfort of knowing every corner of my city.

Why This Cause Matters:

My personal journey informs every aspect of the work we do at the Rocky Mountain Welcome Center. I understand the challenges, the moments of confusion, and the heartache of missing one's homeland. It's why our organization exists—to offer newcomers the support and guidance they need to navigate their journeys successfully. We strive to be the helping hand that I wish I had when I was just starting.

This year alone, we've had the privilege of serving over 600 individuals, each with their unique story and journey. Through our comprehensive programs, we address the myriad challenges that newcomers face, offering essential services like case management support, employment assistance, cultural integration, and emotional well-being. We are also serving the youngest by providing Kindergarten Prep education. Together, we're transforming the lives of those who seek refuge in our country, helping them build brighter futures and contribute to the fabric of our diverse society.

Join Us in Making a Difference:

Today, I invite you to join us in supporting immigrants and refugees as they embark on their own journeys. Your contribution will not just help fund our organization; it will help empower individuals to build their own stories of resilience, adaptability, and success.  We are on a mission to purchase a 12-seat van that will serve as a lifeline for those seeking education, empowerment, and support. A past pilot program demonstrated the incredible potential of providing transportation to the RMWC's students, resulting in a remarkable 325% increase in participation. With your generous support, we can take this initiative to the next level. For Afghan women, who often face language barriers and fear when it comes to public transportation, this van represents more than just a vehicle; it's a bridge to a brighter future. Your donation not only ensures access to our classes but also to vital mental health support.   Furthermore, your donation will support access to our "Girls Rule the World" program that empowers young women to navigate the complexities of biculturalism, social identity, and healthy relationships, and also the Springs Academy soccer program, providing around 100 children with opportunities to access healthy activities and experience the great outdoors.

Help the Rocky Mountain Welcome Center break down barriers and empower individuals to build a better future for themselves and their families. Donate today and be a part of this transformative journey. Together, we can make a real difference in our community.  Thank you for being a part of this deeply personal and meaningful mission.
