Our Story: Amplifying Voices. Empowering Community. Inspiring Change.
For nearly four decades, Denver Urban Spectrum (DUS) has been more than a publication — it has been a movement. Founded in 1987 by visionary publisher Rosalind “Bee” Harris, DUS was created to give voice to those whose stories, struggles, and triumphs were often overlooked in mainstream media. Our mission is simple yet powerful: to educate, inform, and connect communities of color through storytelling that uplifts, empowers, and inspires.
Each month, the Denver Urban Spectrum shares stories that reflect the heart and soul of our diverse community — from trailblazing entrepreneurs and civic leaders to artists, educators, and young changemakers. We shine light on local heroes, celebrate cultural pride, and provide a trusted platform where readers see themselves, their families, and their legacies represented with dignity and respect.
Beyond print, DUS has evolved into a multi-platform media hub featuring digital content, podcasts, newsletters, and community events that engage readers across generations. We partner with local nonprofits, businesses, and schools to elevate voices, promote civic engagement, and strengthen the bonds that unite us as a community.
But as the media landscape changes, independent community journalism faces new challenges. Advertising alone can no longer sustain the deep, meaningful storytelling that our readers depend on. That’s why we’re turning to our community — to you — for support.
