$16,000 goal

The vision of CPWD is to build a community of resources, services, caregivers and consumers that collectively form a foundation of support for independent living. We encourage an integrated community that equally welcomes all members, all disabilities and cross-disabilities.

Our Goal This Year is to Raise $16,000

to Support Independent Living Services

People with disabilities are a significant part of our society and community, yet as a group they have been marginalized through discrimination, misunderstanding, isolation, pity and poverty. Up until recent history, people with disabilities were routinely institutionalized, and had little to no access to everyday living - they could get jobs, homes, travel, or in other ways be part of society.

In the 30-plus years since the passing of the Americans with Disabilities act, CPWD and other Centers for Independent Living have been working hard to shift this limiting discrimination and marginalization, and champion independent living for people with disabilities.

The Mission of the Center for People with Disabilities is to provide resources, information and advocacy to assist people with disabilities in overcoming barriers to independent living.

We envision a society where all people with any disability have the freedom of choice - are able to chose what care they receive, where they live and work; and the freedom of access and equity - are able to access public and private places, towns, parks, entertainment, stores, transportation, and more.

We work towards this vision through an integrated set of Core Services and programs that address the skills training, peer support, information and referral and other needs required to achieve independence.

CPWD is not a case manager - we are consumer-controlled: more than 51% of our staff and board are persons with disabilities. As such we have the professional and lived experience, and know what it takes to achieve and maintain independent living.

Countless success stories show that services founded on independent living philosophy are the most effective at assisting people with disabilities at overcoming barriers to independence, discrimination and marginalization, and living independent, free and fulfilling lives.

Please make your gift today, and change the lives of people with disabilities in our community!

Thank you!
